License application – former IPEK Showroom

November 7, 2012

There have been several attempts to open a club on the site next to Tesco, at 130-132 Kingsland High Street (formerly a furniture shop called the Ipek Showroom).

Most recently, the proprietors have announced their intention to open a food shop there, to be called Dalston Organic.

Whilst many local residents might welcome a good organic food shop on the site, they might be a little alarmed by the notice which has recently been posted in its window, which reads as follows:

Licensing Act 2003 – Notice of Application for a premises License

Notice is hereby given that Huseyin Aykut Oztaskin has applied to London Borough of Hackney for a premises Licence in respect of the premises known as Dalston Organic 130 – 132 Kingsland High St London E82NS for the following licensable activity

Supply of alcohol for consumption on and off the premises

– from 08.00 to 01.00 Sunday to Thursday

– from 08.00 to 02.00 Friday and Saturday

Deadline for objections is 4th December

For some reason this license application has not been listed in any of the recent weekly emails distributed by Hackney Council’s Licensing Department.

Nevertheless, we presume that it is open to residents to object to this application.

If you want to do so, email  licensing@hackney.gov.uk with the name of the premises and/or its address in the subject line of your email.

Your objection is most likely to be taken seriously if it directly addresses the objectives of Hackney’s Licensing Policy. The four main objectives of the policy are:

• Prevention of crime and disorder
• Public safety
• Prevention of public nuisance
• Protection of children from harm.
