20 Stoke Newington Road – another club application

April 17, 2013

An application has been received from ‘Wiggly Ltd.’ for ‘a premises licence for plays, films, live music, recorded music, performance of dance, anything of similar description and supply of alcohol from 11:00 to 00:00 Sun to Wed and from 11:00 to 02:00am Thur and from 11:00 to 02:30am Fri and Sat and non standard timing from 11:00 to 03:00am on all Bank Holidays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day and late night refreshment from 23:00 to 00:00 Mon to Sun and non standard timing from 23:00 to 01:00am on all Bank Holidays, Christmas Eve’.

This is the same address as Tipsy which has repeatedly put in applications for a club license at this address and, on January 7th 2013, lost an appeal  against Hackney Council’s refusal to grant an extension of its basement licence to the ground floor. After two days of cross-examination of local residents, the police and a number of other witnesses, the judge found that the Council’s decision had been correct in the light of the over-saturation of the area with alcohol.

The deadline for objections to this application is May 10th, 2013.

If you want to object, email with the name of the premises and/or its address in the subject line of your email. The deadline is 25/04/2013

Your objection is most likely to be taken seriously if it directly addresses the objectives of Hackney’s Licensing Policy. The four main objectives of the policy are:

• Prevention of crime and disorder
• Public safety
• Prevention of public nuisance
• Protection of children from harm.
