New club license sought at Stamford Works

October 30, 2013

An application has been made by Mr Knight for ‘a premises licence for plays, films, live music from 12:00 to 23:00 Mon to Sat and from 12:00 to 22:00 Sun, recorded music from 12:00 to 23:00 Mon to Thur, 12:00 to 24:00 Fri, 09:00 to 24:00 Sat and from 09:00 to 23:00 Sun, performance of dance from 12:00 to 23:00 Sun to Thur and from 12:00 to 24:00 Fri and Sat and supply of alcohol from 10:00 to 24:00 Mon to Sat and from 10:00 to 23:00 Sun.’ for Stamford Works, in Gillet Square.

These large premises adjoin private residences and have in the past caused major noise nuisance when events have been held there under Temporary Event Notices (TENs). The prospect of a permanent club at this address is therefore a cause for alarm among local residents.

Although the application is initially for a license until midnight, local experience suggests that this is the thin end of a wedge, with a very high chance that, once the initial license is granted, there will be a stream of further applications for extending these hours.

To object to this application, email licensing@hackney.gov.uk before the deadline of November 22.
