Efes Snooker Bar trying to regain late-night license

January 9, 2014

The Efes Snooker Club, at 17b Stoke Newington Road, had its late-night license revoked in February last year on several grounds, including poor management of the premises leading to breaches of of condition, resulting in public nuisance.

They have now put in an application for a premises licence for indoor sporting event, recorded music from 09:00 to 03:00am Sun to Wed and from 09:00 to 04:00am Thur to Sat and supply of alcohol from 12:00 to 03:00am Sun to Wed and from 12:00 to 04:00am Thur to Sat. In other words, they want to revert to the previous situation, selling alcohol until 3 am on week nights and 4 am at weekends.

This is a large venue which in the past attracted large crowds of drunken people who caused considerable nuisance not only to immediate neighbours, for instance in Stoke Newington Road and Eagle Mansions, but also further afield, because of their tendency to congregate in other open spaces and anti-social behaviour hotspots along Kingsland High Street and around the Rio Cross Area.

The deadline for objections to this application is January 30th, 2014. Objections should be sent to with the name and/or address of the premises in the subject line.

Your objection is most likely to be taken seriously if it directly addresses the objectives of Hackney’s Licensing Policy. The four main objectives of the policy are:

• Prevention of crime and disorder
• Public safety
• Prevention of public nuisance
• Protection of children from harm.
