What is ‘Share My City’ (SME-City)?
It’s a new project funded by the European Commission under the ‘Prevention of Crime’ programme. Its main objective is to develop a European network to explore new ways of understanding and working with conflict, crime and anti-social behaviour in our inner cities. The UK partner is Arcola Research, an independent organisation based in Hackney, London.
What are Consultation Syndicates?
In London, our aim is to carry out a community-based ‘action research’ initiative in Hackney. To prepare for this, we will run four community consultation workshops – Consultation Syndicates – between January 20th and 28th, 2014. The aim is to come up with some ideas to reduce conflict, crime and anti-social behaviour in Hackney. The ideas produced by these four workshops will be reviewed in a larger community-wide event held in February, 2014. This will decide on which ideas are most promising, and will sketch out a plan to put the best ideas into practice and evaluate them. The initiative will provide an opportunity for everyone in Hackney to contribute to making its public spaces safer, more open, more stimulating and more enjoyable.
What happens in the Consultation Syndicates?
The four workshops are aimed at four different community groups: Institutions; Businesses; Community actors; Young people who live, study and work in Hackney. Each workshop will have a different focus but will follow the same structure and content, shown in the Table below:
