Mockingbird, 50 Stoke Newington Road, joins stampede for late night license

January 26, 2014

Yet another Dalston venue, the Mockingbird, at 50 Stoke Newington Road has joined the new year rush for a late night club/bar license.

They have put in an application for a

‘… variation of premises licence to extend live music from till 00.30am Sun to Thurs and till 02.30am Fri and Sat, late night refreshment till 03.00am Mon to Sun and supply of alcohol till 00.45am Sun to Thurs and till 02.45am Fri to Sat. And variation of existing Condition 20 which states: “Intoxicating liquor shall not be sold, supplied, or consumed on the premises otherwise than to persons who are taking substantial table meals and that the consumption of intoxicating liquor by such persons is ancillary to taking such meals. The supply of alcohol shall be by waiter or waitress service only”. To allow not more than 50% of the floor space to be used by patrons not wishing to partake of a substantial meal. Condition 20 to be retained in its entirety in respect of the remaining floor space.’

As with Wiggly, any pretence to being a restaurant serving drinks ancillary to meals has disappeared. They clearly want to be yet another club/bar disgorging even more drunken clients onto our already overcrowded streets in the small hours of the morning.

The deadline for objections to this application is February 10th, 2014.

If you want to object, email licensing@hackney.gov.uk with the name of the premises and/or its address in the subject line of your email.

Your objection is most likely to be taken seriously if it directly addresses the objectives of Hackney’s Licensing Policy. The four main objectives of the policy are:

• Prevention of crime and disorder
• Public safety
• Prevention of public nuisance
• Protection of children from harm.
