Pickled in the High Street?

July 22, 2015

An application has been made for a premises license for 43-45 Kingsland High Street for a ‘variation of premises licence to change the sale of alcohol to be for consumption on and off the premises, to change the layout of the premises, to replace all existing conditions with new conditions and to provide recorded music from 06:00 to 23:00 Mon to Sun in the shop and from 09:00 to 23:00 Mon to Sun in the restaurant’.

Currently a pound shop, located in between the Shanghai restaurant (formerly an eel pie and mash shop) and the Chemist, this double-fronted shop front is at the heart of Dalston’s shopping centre. The applicants (trading under the name ‘Pickles’) propose retaining its use as a shop but combining this with a restaurant with recorded music, and off license sales. This would add yet another source of alcohol to an area in which alcohol-related anti-social behaviour is already out of control.

The deadline for objections is August 10th, 2015

If you wish to object to this application, write to licensing@hackney.gov.uk with the address of the premises in the subject line.

Your objection is most likely to be taken seriously if it directly addresses the objectives of Hackney’s Licensing Policy. The four main objectives of the policy are:

• Prevention of crime and disorder
• Public safety
• Prevention of public nuisance
• Protection of children from harm.
