Deadline for Crossrail 2 consultation is January 8th!

January 7, 2016

The consultation on Crossrail 2’s proposals to demolish large swathes of Dalston Town Centre expires tomorrow 8th January.  It is very important that Crossrail understand the severity of the impact of their proposals – please make your comments however brief!  You need to complete ‘about you’ here  as well as make your own comments here.

The general link for consultation is here .

This map shows the site areas all of which could face total demolition and redevelopment.

The proposals affect residences, businesses and the quality of the public realm when there are clear alternative opportunities to extend Dalston Kingsland station as part of a redeveloped Kingsland Shopping Centre, and avoid the loss of historic buildings to the south of Dalston Junction by concentrating the new works on the less historically sensitive site to the west of Kingsland Road.

Open’s blog post here  is a useful summary of the issues.  If TFL aren’t convinced that they need to reconsider their proposals as part of this round of consultation they will move forward this summer to consult to ‘safeguard’ all the properties on the sites shown, from which there will be little opportunity for recovery.  Dalston welcomes improvement in infrastructure but not at such a cost to the quality of its town centre.
