Rudies trying to expand into basement
Rudies bar, at 50 Stoke Newington Road, have applied for a ‘variation of premises licence to include basement level within the licence demise, amend condition 20 as “Intoxicating liquor shall not be sold, supplied or consumed on the ground floor otherwise than to persons who are taking substantial table meals and that the consumption of intoxicating liquor by such persons is ancillary to the taking such meals. The supply of alcohol shall be by waiter or waitress service only, add conditions 1. The consumption of alcohol in the basement shall only be persons waiting for a table meal; persons consuming a table meal or persons who have consumed a table meal on the premises, 2. The maximum number of persons permitted in the basement at any one time shall not exceed 30(excluding staff) and to remove condition “The basement below the venue is a separate area and is not to be used for any licensable activities or by patrons of the premises”.
This is yet another example of ‘licensing creep’ whereby premises who have managed to get a license from the Council keep coming back for more concessions. We can only presume that the restrictions on the license they are trying to get rid of were put there for good reasons, suggesting that removing them will have negative impacts on local residents.
